Day 20 – I think.

Wow!  I’ve taken some days off of blogging, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been active in taking care of myself.  Just a recap of my weekend.  We went to Myrtle Beach as a family, and had a great time.  I did a lot of laying out and swimming with Sydney and hubs.  We had a great time!  My eating was not great, mostly because I was tempted so much by heavy, carbohydrate laden, unhealthy food.  Ugh!  So I had to really make it up yesterday and today.

Yesterday was a fantastic day!  I watched the kiddos, ate great meals, including a smoothie for breakfast, a huge salad for lunch, and then a sandwich and salad for dinner.  I drank tons of water during the day, as I generally do, but I had a very great reason for doing so!  I went to Dunn, NC, to a small yoga studio called Firefly Yoga and Dance, for Hot Yoga.  If you’ve never heard of Hot Yoga, then allow me to explain just a bit.  Close your eyes and picture this:  a darkened room with candles burning, curtains drawn, giving a red glow to the room, sweat rolling off the body, heat, immense amounts of heat, to the tune of 100 plus degrees, deepened poses, breath, trusting the body, learning to feel comfortable in the intense heat of the room.  In the end, I felt like a different person, even with sweat rolling up from my chest and neck onto my face as I was doing Downward Facing Dog, and sweat rolling down from my back into my butt crack.  I realize that Hot Yoga may not be for everyone, but I can assure you that I will be going back!

Today, my body felt renewed, and I respected it with my food choices.  Oatmeal with coconut butter, honey, and cinnamon for breakfast, a delicious black bean burrito with cheese and salsa for lunch with some Odwalla Superfood Juice and water to drink, and an incredible and huge spinach, mushroom, red pepper and onion quesadilla with yummy salsa for dinner.  I went to yoga tonight, and I am here to tell you that it kicked my booty!  Sun salutations are not my strong suit at all, but I have to be proud, because I feel my body getting stronger everyday.  Wonderful feeling.  I don’t know how much I will be looking at my weight so much for the remainder of this 30 days, simply because I had no idea that I would feel this good as I approached the 30 day mark.

Day 14

So I obviously haven’t been posting much.  Forgive me.  Life has been happening, and by the end of the night, when I usually blog, I am tired, and just want to go to bed.  But here I am tonight.

My weekend was sort of off, because I took a vacation from eating smaller, lighter portions, and did not really exercise.  So you can imagine the scale is not as friendly to me as I wish it was.  We shall all see tomorrow’s weigh in, though.  But, over the weekend, I was not completely lazy.  Hubs and I purged the entire house of unneccessary things.  What a way to feel lighter, for sure.  It feels good to go through the entire house and get rid of things that we don’t need any longer.  And for some things, I look at them, and wonder why I bought them in the first place.  I’m guessing it was at a time in my life where I felt like I needed to fill the emotional void with stuff, and I’m so happy to say that that is not the case right now.  Sydney got a brand new room arrangement, and it looks so grown up!  She no longer has bed rails on her bed, and the bed is out in the middle of the room now, not pushed up against a wall.  She loves her new room, and has not fallen out of the bed (and I doubt she will).

Last night, I went to yoga, and we did a lot of sun salutations, which done in succession make me sweat like there is no tomorrow.  It felt good to be in class again, though, so I was eternally grateful.  Plus, sweating is so great for the body, even more reason to be happy about my sweaty yoga class.

Today, I was more on the ball with eating and exercise.  I had some green smoothie juice for breakfast, and lots of water.  I didn’t have to be to Little Dude’s house until after I met him and his dad at gymnastics.  Sydney and he did really well today, and I enjoyed watching them.  They get to move up a level next week, and I’m so proud of both of them.  While at gymnastics, I had a Lemon Zest Luna bar for snack (SUPER YUM!).  We came back to my house to pick up lunch for Sydney and me, but ended up staying at the house to eat here.  I had left over spaghetti with delicious sauce.  After finishing lunch and cleaning up, we went to Little Dude’s house, and they went down for rest time.  The Little Lady came home from school, and I had some great conversations with her, and later worked with her on how to do a head stand, she is a little impatient with herself, but that is one of my goals before summer is over; to teach her to do a headstand.  Sydney and I came home so we could take the cat to the vet, but she never came home today, so I have no idea where she is, but I’m very worried about her.  So I went to 6:00 yoga and on the way ate a Luna Protein bar.

Yoga was fantastic tonight.  We worked on inversions, and Andreas, the instructor is really working our shoulders out, which is so awesome.  I never knew I had weak shoulders until I started to really build them up.  I’m really noticing that my body is changing so much, and it’s an incredible thing.  I showed off some of my headstand skills in class, and I’m still on a euphoric cloud right now… Inversions have a certain endorphin affect on people, and it really is such a cool feeling.  I feel like Superman.

After yoga, I came home and helped put our girl to bed.  She was so tired tonight, and very teary.  Sometimes she doesn’t quite understand that sleep is the only thing that’s going to help with that.  But she went to bed, and I had a little relax time with the hubs.  I ate a little food, too, some broccoli and about 1/4 cup of mixed nuts.  Delicious.

Day 9 – Relax and Date Night!

Yesterday was a fantastic day!  I had the day off, and so we just lounged around the house for a while then went out for breakfast.  Yesterday will have to be considered my off day, because of how “off” I ate.  But I’m not concerned, it was good to have sort of a junkie day.  So for breakfast, we went to Cracker Barrel, and I had multigrain pancakes and eggs with orange juice and water.  It was delicious, I must admit, and at Cracker Barrel, I feel better about what I’m eating because they seem to use real ingredients, rather than like several other places.  We are Cracker Barrel lovers, so you’ll never find me trashing them.

After breakfast, we sat outside on the porch of Cracker Barrel and played checkers, then went to Target, after I got my booty kicked!  I got Luna Protein bars.  I really love Luna bars, and all of the flavors I’ve ever tried are fantastic!  So if you’re looking for a good energy bar or protein bar, I highly suggest Luna.

Home we went after Target, and Sydney ate lunch, and then watched a movie to replace rest time.  She laid quietly on the couch and watched the movie.  Some would say this was not a good choice, but it was our first time doing this, and we don’t plan on making it a regular occurrence.  I had some green juice that I got from the local grocery store for lunch, and I felt great.

Since last night wash was date night, we started getting ready, and my friend Vicky came over to watch our girl.  I had to show off to Vicky, so I showed her Scorpion and my headstand.  I think she was impressed.  And off we went for our date night.  We went to downtown Fayetteville to Pierro’s to have dinner.  For dinner I had a salad with ranch dressing, garlic knots, Eggplant Parmesan, and a Mandarin Mojito to drink.  It is so rare that I drink, so this was delicious, and so welcome!

We walked around downtown since it was Fourth Friday, and lots of vendors were open.  We went to two antique shops and found some awesome pieces to look at and not buy, and then went to Greg’s, one of my favorite places in downtown.  We got to see Greg creating a work of art, and as always, it was pure genius.  After leaving there, we saw some new vendors under tents, one of which is called Blooming Buttons by M&J, find them on Facebook and check them out!  They create these awesome bows that can go on headbands, bobby pins, or other hair clips, and all are hand made (and they are local)!!!  The other place we discovered is called The Peacock’s Eye, this place sells Polish Pottery and Gifts.  They have amazing pottery that is all hand painted and made, and all of the items in there had me giddy like a school girl, so much so that hubs was asking me if I was drunk (and no, I was not), I was just so excited about such beautiful pottery.  These are two pieces I got, a spoon rest and a teaspoon.  Both of which are from the same pattern.

We had such a wonderful time in downtown Fayetteville, and ended our time in a store called The Promise, which was filled with such awesome home decor, some of which was patriotic and some of which was religious in nature.  Everything in the store, though, felt like home, and most of it is locally made and can be customized.  What a great way to end our venture downtown.

As parents, we don’t take much time to ourselves to be husband and wife, but it is glorious when we do get to.  It seems that I’ve finally gotten to a point where I don’t feel guilty about leaving my daughter so I can have “me” time.  This can be another post in itself, entirely, but I look forward to another date night with my husband.  I love you, hubs! 🙂

Day 8 – Fantastic and Productive

I’m writing this on day 9, because I was exhausted last night, and went to bed way too late.  So here I am!  Today, you get pictures, and you should be very excited!  I am!  I weighed in this morning, and I have lost nearly 2 pounds in 8 days!  I’ve worked very hard for this, and I’m so very proud of what my body is doing, and so very happy about the commitment that I’ve made to myself.  It feels good to be a mom, and give time to myself, because let’s face it, moms deserve time to themselves.  It keeps me sane.  You may remember that I started out at 132.2 pounds, and yesterday when I weighed in (naked), I weighed 130.4.

I worked yesterday, (I am a nanny, babysitter, whatever you want to call it) and I took the kiddos to Chuck-E-Cheese for some fun.  They had a lot of fun, and I was so thankful that I invited my great friend Christina and her family, and brought hubs with me, because I don’t know if I could have taken the 2 of them on my own.  We played there for a long time, ate, won some tickets, got some cheap-o toys, and then went back to Little Dude’s house.  The kids took naps, and then got up, and we made delicious blueberry muffins made with whole wheat flour and honey.  Yum!  I’ll have to find the recipe and post it. We soon went home, and I went to the gym.

Yoga was on the menu, of course, and we did inversions, and I was able to do Scorpion pose with no assistance (in getting into position, but with the use of a stack of chairs).  Since last week, I’ve been able to do headstands completely unassisted, and this lets me know that my body is becoming much, much stronger.  For a long time there, I was neglecting my body, not because I intentionally wanted to do it harm, but because I had no interest in regular exercise, but now I think it’s safe to say I’m hooked.  My muscles are becoming incredibly strong, and are noticeable.  This decision to join a gym and stay committed to exercising, is one of the greatest I’ve made.

Day 5 & Day 6

Once again recapping the day after.  Today was a huge day, so I’ll make it brief.  Yesterday, I ate very healthily, babysat and then went to yoga.  The yoga class was absolutely packed, and I felt like a pickle in an overly full jar!  The class was refreshing and awesome, though, as always.  I’m feeling especially good because of the Raw Cleanse that I’m doing.  It’s amazingly gentle and really awesome.  I found a new way of swallowing the powered stuff that I have to drink each night, and that’s to put it in orange juice.  Good stuff!  Orange juice can hide almost anything, and it doesn’t taste so much like I’m grazing in a huge field of alfalfa.  So that’s as much as I’ll say about day 5.  Now onto day 6.

Today was my first day back to work (nannying), since I had a week long break.  The break was glorious, by the way!  I took with me lots of wonderful food, so I could prepare healthy food while I was caring for Sydney and the little dude.  I arrived and we went inside the house to put my things down, and then fixed breakfast:  Strawberry, peach and orange smoothie with a piece of whole wheat toast with peanut butter.  It was a wonderful way to start the day.  Before we knew it, we were outside, playing at the community park, and nearly dying because it was so sweltering hot at 9am.  Crazy!  After about 45 minutes, we were back inside the house taking it easy.  We all had a nice snack of yogurt, and the kids had a little extra something.  And soon lunch came:  a huge salad for me, YUM!  Naptime somewhat happened, for little dude, but not for Syd, naturally.  Ugh!  Little Miss (Little Dude’s sister) got home from school, and we went outside to play in the water/pool in the neighbor’s yard.  It was so completely, miserably hot outside that I’m convinced I lost about 5 pounds just sitting there.  I even had sweat pouring from my belly button!  The fun of the day happened when the neighbor and I were chasing wasps, because they were hovering too close for comfort near the kids.  Let’s just say that the neighbor is an excellent shot with a broom, and the drama (high pitched screams and squeals) over the wasps was pretty fun in itself!

When it was time to go home, I happily went, to spend time with hubs.  I skipped yoga tonight to stay home with my beautiful family.  Hubs cleaned the kitchen and I cooked spaghetti with zucchini, mushrooms, onions and garlic and whole wheat noodles.  It was incredibly good.  I ate a small portion, then we got our little girl in bed, and sat down for a relaxing evening of The Office.

Day 4 – Simply Marvelous

Again, writing the day after.  I decided to also do a full body cleanse along with my 30 day challenge to reset my body.  I chose the Raw Cleanse, since it has the most benefits in cleansing the body and is derived from vegan, raw ingredients.  I will talk more about this later.

After doing Jillian Michaels’ Yoga Meltdown the night before and climbing, my body is sore, but in an excellent way.  This is how I know my body is working, and responding to all of the work I’ve been doing for it.

We spent the day together as a family by going to church, having lunch, and then hubs went off to play golf while Syd napped and after waking up, we went to the pool together.  We had such a great time!  She loves the water so much, and I love taking her.  And the pool was so crowded!  I love seeing Syd’s confidence grow in the water.

We went to Target for a 3 drawer system to transform my office into a sewing/craft room for me, and then home to cook dinner.  I had found a recipe for stuffed zucchini, and since hubs was golfing with our good friend, we invited our friend over for dinner.  Well, dinner was a hit!  Sydney devoured hers, I ate mine, and hubs and friend loved it!  I wasn’t feeling very confident about it, but the thing about this dish is that it can be made any way I want:  Mexican, Italian, and I could even switch it up a bit for hubs (the meat eater of the house) and put shredded chicken in his.  So excited to find new recipes.  Here is the link for the website:  Zoom Yummy  The entire site looks delicious, look for me to talk about her recipes more!

After getting Miss Syd to bed, I organized my fabric in my new 3 drawer system.  More about the transformation later.  It was obviously my off day for exercise, and that was okay with me.

Here is what I had for meals:

Breakfast:  Oatmeal with coconut butter, honey, 1/2 banana, cinnamon

Snack:  1/2 banana

Lunch:  1 1/2 Falafel (1/2 of one fell on the floor, so I counted that as a lost cause), and 3 huge handsful of baby spinach, sauteed with onion & spices, fresh pineapple

Dinner:  Stuffed zucchini (one small one)

Now about the 7 day cleanse I am doing.  It has 3 parts to it, a before breakfast powder that is put in the mouth with a sip of water, swished then swallowed, capsules that are taken with breakfast and lunch (3 at a time), and powder that is mixed with water or low sugar juice and drank.  So here is how it went.  The morning powder, not too bad, and then I ate.  With breakfast, the capsules were no big deal, swallowing pills is not too bad.  But the before bed powder mixture, that was horrific!  To the credit of the man in the store, he warned me it did not taste good, but I assure you, it was not a taste thing.  Coupled with the grainy texture of the powder (and not the mention the taste of alfalfa), I gagged after every drink.  Yikes!  I’ll take a picture of this stuff tonight before I drink it!  I will be thankful when I’m finished with the 7 day cleanse!

Day 3 – 27 Left!

I am writing this a day later, because we had such a fantastic, beautiful day yesterday as a family.  The day started by getting up at normal time but leaving the house rather quickly so we could go to the Fayetteville Farmer’s Market in downtown!  Before leaving, I had a banana and some soy yogurt.  Since I only had $3, I decided that I would just get what I hadn’t gotten yet at the grocery store.  I got $1.50 worth of zucchini, which are all so beautiful, and I’m sure they will be delicious stuffed for dinner tonight.  After the Farmer’s Market, we went to Rude Awakening to get some coffee and an apple croissant.  Sydney ate some of the apple croissant, and I finished it off.  Hubs decided he was starving, so we ventured off to The Fresh Cafe, and then walked around downtown for a while.

The real fun began when we went to The Climbing Place to indoor rock climb.  We got all geared up, and of course I sported my Five Fingers, because I thought they would be excellent for gripping, and you know what?!  I was right!  I climbed several walls, and got quite the workout!  We tried to encourage Sydney to climb, too, and she did, but wasn’t so enthused by the harness, ropes and climbing the actual walls.  She loved the cube, so I climbed that with her some too.  Hubs mostly bouldered, because he is awesome like that.  Of course we didn’t bring a camera, and you will all learn that is a normal occurrence for me/us to do!

We left, because of a very cranky and emotional preschooler, and went to lunch at Jason’s Deli.  I had a huge salad from the salad bar, complete with mixed greens, spinach, red bell peppers, feta cheese, nut and dried fruit blend, mushrooms, olives, ranch dressing, and some other odds and ends.  Delicious!  I had green tea with my meal, since that is full of antioxidants and is a great way to help the flow of the digestive system.

Naptime was next for the family, but I toodled around on my computer, and when they got up, we played around on the computer with the Photo Booth feature.

After goofing off for quite a while, we decided to go to dinner with a great friend of ours at Monterrey.  I had Camarones Cancun, which was shrimp with onions, zucchini, pineapple, rice, avocado, pico de gallo and lettuce.  Delicious all mixed together.

After dinner, we came home, got Sydney to bed, and then I nearly killed myself doing Jillian Michaels’ Yoga Meltdown.  Yeah, yoga is something I enjoy at a slow pace.  And today, my back is far more achy than when I do yoga at the gym.  The hubs and I watched a movie following the workout, and just relaxed.
